The Student Spotlight this week shines on Marisol Pineda-Cermeno, @marisolpineda.hair, from The Salon Professional Academy of San Jose, CA. Marisol won a $5,000 “Art of Haircoloring” scholarship from the Miller Family Foundation administered by the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation.
After working as a medical assistant for five years, at 26 years of age, Marisol decided to follow her dream and go back to school to become a cosmetologist. She had enrolled in cosmetology school when she was 16 but found herself pregnant with her first child. She was unable to continue the program because she needed to focus on her new family. Now with three kids, she wants to show her children that no matter the obstacle you can overcome any obstacles to follow your passion and succeed. She currently goes to school full-time, commutes three hours, while her husband has two jobs to support her in her goal. She says that receiving this scholarship will help her achieve her goals and finally start this chapter of her life.
