While hairstyling can seem like an independent career, it’s one that’s guaranteed to be better with a dream team by your side. Working alongside other knowledgeable and talented salon professionals can allow you to learn new things, have an extra hand on complex cuts and colors, and receive the inspiration to encourage you to consistently improve on your craft.

At JCPenney Salons, we understand the importance of a supportive and collaborative environment: That’s why we dedicate our time and energy to creating Dream Teams at each of your locations. Wondering if a career at a JCP Salon is right for you? Here’s what you need to know about finding your own Dream Team at JCPenney.

How to discover your perfect dream team

A team is only as strong as its environment. So, it’s of the utmost importance that you take the necessary steps, and do the necessary research, to find the perfect fit. To do this, here are three things you should know. Evaluate your priorities, values, and career desires.

First, take some time to really think about your priorities: What does a Dream Team look like to you? Think about your own values, and what kind of community you would thrive the best in. Additionally, open your mind to a variety of company cultures that you might be interested in: Are you looking for something more fast-paced, or a more relaxed and chill culture? Taking the steps to really think about your work environment will make finding that perfect fit so much easier.

Ask questions. Once you’ve found the right fit, and maybe even landed an interview, consider this your time to learn more about the company or salon. After doing your research on the company, and its culture, come prepared with questions that will allow you to learn more about your prospective Dream Team. Here are some great questions to keep in mind:

  • • How would you describe the work environment at this establishment?
  • • What are your company’s top values?
  • • What does work/life balance look like at your company?
  • • What does growth and career development look like here?
  • • How would someone here fit in with the company culture and team?

These questions will not only show the interviewer that you’re interested in the company, but will also allow you to learn more about it beyond a webpage or job description. How you’ll see this at JCPenney: As we said before, JCPenney is dedicated to creating Dream Teams of knowledgeable and talented experts that contribute to our positive and strong company culture.

JC Penney Salon senior manager, Jaimee Harris-Smith, and her team are proof of this. “This is one of the things that really attracted me to JCPenney: one thing that I know is that our stylists and our clients are the heartbeats of our business,” Smith says. “We want a positive environment, an environment that fosters teamwork and collaboration is key.”

So, what does a Dream Team look like to you?
